Since the middle of March, the spring pollen season has been upon us. Just as the flu season starts to wind down, the trees begin to bud and create havoc for those people who suffer from inhaled allergies. In the state of Kentucky tree pollen season begins the middle of March and continues until May. Then from May until mid June the grasses emit their terror on the allergy prone population. Once we get to July, we are relatively free of major pollen until late August.

We at Prospect Pediatrics can treat the symptoms of allergies in many different ways. The over the counter preparations are the first line attack on this problem. Some of the medications we recommend are Dimetapp, Triaminic and Pediacare products. Nasalcrom nose spray is also an effective medication for nasal congestion due allergies. If these medications prove not to be effective, then we recommend an office visit to discuss symptoms in more detail and prescribe a number of very beneficial remedies. Non-sedating antihistamines, steroid nasal sprays, and eye drops have all shown to be very effective to specific cases. If symptoms are severe, resulting in chronic conditions like sinusitis and asthma, we have the ability to diagnose and treat the majority of these problems.

The Ohio Valley is blessed with beautiful flowers and trees in the Spring and a lot of people have a chance to enjoy it, but if you or your children seem miserable during this time of year, do yourself a favor and call us to see if there is something that can be done to give you back the outdoors to enjoy.
